PRIMAVERA SG 1000MG is indicated for the treatment of a variety of bacterial infections, including:

  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)

  • Respiratory infections such as bronchitis and pneumonia

  • Ear infections (otitis media)

  • Gastrointestinal infections like traveler's diarrhea

  • Skin infections caused by bacteria

  • Bacterial prostatitis

It is also used in the treatment and prevention of pneumocystis pneumonia in immunocompromised patients.

Pharmacology:
PRIMAVERA SG 1000MG contains a combination of Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim, both of which are antimicrobial agents that work together to inhibit bacterial growth. Sulfamethoxazole is a sulfonamide antibiotic that works by inhibiting the synthesis of folic acid in bacteria, which is essential for bacterial growth. Trimethoprim works by inhibiting a subsequent step in the folic acid pathway, thereby enhancing the action of sulfamethoxazole. Together, these two components provide a synergistic effect, helping to kill bacteria and prevent the growth of resistant strains.

Dosage:

  • For Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): The typical dosage is one tablet of PRIMAVERA SG 1000MG every 12 hours for 10–14 days, depending on the severity of the infection and as directed by the healthcare provider.

  • For Respiratory Infections: The usual dose is one tablet twice a day for 7-10 days.

  • For other infections (e.g., skin, gastrointestinal), dosage may vary. Always follow the prescribed dose by your doctor.

Administration:

PRIMAVERA SG 1000MG should be taken orally with a full glass of water. It is usually taken with or without food, but it’s recommended to take it with food if you experience any stomach upset.

Ensure to complete the entire course of treatment, even if symptoms improve, to prevent the development of antibiotic resistance.

Interaction:

PRIMAVERA SG 1000MG may interact with several other medications:

  • Warfarin: Sulfamethoxazole can enhance the anticoagulant effect of warfarin, increasing the risk of bleeding.

  • Methotrexate: The combination of Sulfamethoxazole and Trimethoprim may increase the toxicity of methotrexate.

  • Other antibiotics: Use with other antibiotics (e.g., penicillin, tetracyclines) may increase the risk of side effects or reduce the effectiveness of one or both drugs.

  • Diuretics (e.g., furosemide): Increased risk of kidney problems, particularly in elderly patients.

Always inform your healthcare provider of all other medications you are taking.

Contraindications:

PRIMAVERA SG 1000MG is contraindicated in:

  • Patients with hypersensitivity to Sulfamethoxazole, Trimethoprim, or any other sulfonamide drugs.
