Indications:
PULMOKAST 10 MG is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents, and for the relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis.
Pharmacology:
Montelukast is a leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks substances called leukotrienes. These substances cause narrowing and inflammation of airways in the lungs. By blocking leukotrienes, Montelukast improves asthma symptoms and helps control seasonal allergies.
Dosage:
Adults and adolescents (15 years and older): One 10 mg tablet daily, preferably in the evening.
Administration:
Can be taken with or without food. Should be taken at the same time each day for best results.
Interaction:
Montelukast may interact with drugs like phenobarbital, rifampicin, and phenytoin which can decrease its effectiveness. No significant interaction with food.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any of its components.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, and dizziness. Rare but serious effects include mood changes, aggression, or suicidal thoughts.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution is advised during breastfeeding. Consult a doctor before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Not for the treatment of acute asthma attacks. Patients should continue their usual asthma medication and not abruptly substitute Montelukast. Monitor for behavioral or mood-related changes.
