Indications:
QUIT 0.5 is indicated for the treatment of panic disorder, anxiety disorders, and certain types of seizures including absence seizures, myoclonic seizures, and Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.
Pharmacology:
Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine that enhances the activity of GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid), an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. This results in sedative, anxiolytic, anticonvulsant, and muscle relaxant effects.
Dosage:
Adults: Usually 0.25 mg twice daily, which may be increased to 0.5 mg to 1 mg/day as required. Dosage should be individualized based on the condition and patient response.
Administration:
Should be taken orally with or without food. Avoid alcohol during treatment.
Interaction:
Clonazepam may enhance the effects of CNS depressants (alcohol, opioids, antihistamines, antidepressants). It may interact with phenytoin, carbamazepine, and other anticonvulsants.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to benzodiazepines, severe liver disease, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, or respiratory depression.
Side Effects:
Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, memory problems, coordination issues. Long-term use may lead to dependence, withdrawal symptoms, or depression.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester, unless absolutely necessary. Excreted in breast milk; use caution during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of substance abuse, depression, or suicidal tendencies. Avoid abrupt discontinuation to prevent withdrawal seizures.
