Indications:
Used for treatment of fungal infections of the skin including tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea pedis (athlete’s foot), tinea versicolor, and seborrheic dermatitis.
Pharmacology:
Ketoconazole is an imidazole antifungal that inhibits fungal cytochrome P450 enzymes, leading to impaired synthesis of ergosterol, a key component of fungal cell membranes. This disrupts membrane integrity causing fungal cell death.
Dosage:
Use the soap once or twice daily as prescribed by a physician.
Administration:
Lather the soap on the affected area, leave it for 2-3 minutes, then rinse off with water.
Interaction:
Minimal systemic absorption; unlikely to interact significantly with other medications when used topically.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ketoconazole or any ingredient in the soap.
Side Effects:
May cause mild irritation, itching, or dryness at the site of application.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Topical use is generally considered low risk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes. If irritation occurs, discontinue use and consult a physician.
