Indications:
Constipation (as a laxative), dry skin (as an emollient), and certain dermatological conditions.
Pharmacology:
Liquid paraffin is a highly refined mineral oil that works as a lubricant laxative. It helps to soften stools and ease their passage. Externally, it forms a protective barrier on the skin.
Dosage:
Adults: 15-30 ml orally at bedtime.
Children: Dose as advised by physician.
Administration:
Take orally with water or apply externally on clean dry skin as prescribed.
Interaction:
May reduce absorption of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) if used long-term. Avoid taking with other oral medications simultaneously.
Contraindications:
Intestinal obstruction, appendicitis, nausea, vomiting, and known hypersensitivity.
Side Effects:
Abdominal cramps, anal leakage, lipid pneumonia (if aspirated), reduced vitamin absorption with prolonged use.
