AVASTATIN 10 MG tablet is indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and prevention of cardiovascular diseases. It lowers LDL cholesterol, total cholesterol, and triglycerides while modestly increasing HDL cholesterol, thereby reducing the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and related complications.

Pharmacology:
AVASTATIN contains Atorvastatin, a member of the statin class that inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting HMG-CoA to mevalonate in cholesterol biosynthesis. This inhibition decreases cholesterol production in the liver, leading to increased clearance of LDL cholesterol from the bloodstream.

Dosage:
The usual dose is 10 mg once daily, taken orally, preferably in the evening. Dosage may be adjusted by the doctor based on cholesterol levels and patient response.

Administration:
Take AVASTATIN 10 MG tablet orally with or without food. Consistent daily intake is important for optimal effect. Do not skip doses and continue treatment as prescribed.

Interaction:
AVASTATIN may interact with other drugs such as cyclosporine, certain antibiotics (macrolides), antifungals, and other lipid-lowering agents, which can increase the risk of side effects like muscle pain or liver dysfunction. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.

Contraindications:
Not to be used in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations of liver enzymes. Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation due to potential risks to the fetus and infant. Avoid use in patients allergic to atorvastatin or any components.

Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, muscle pain, abdominal discomfort, and nausea. Rare but serious effects include rhabdomyolysis (muscle breakdown), liver enzyme abnormalities, and allergic reactions. Report any unusual muscle pain or weakness immediately.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
AVASTATIN is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception during treatment and consult a doctor before use.
