DERMA 50 MG is indicated for the treatment of severe recalcitrant nodular acne that is resistant to conventional therapy.
Pharmacology:
Contains isotretinoin, a retinoid that decreases sebaceous gland size and sebum production, normalizes follicular keratinization, and reduces inflammation and bacterial colonization.
Dosage:
Typical dose ranges from 0.5 mg/kg/day to 1 mg/kg/day in divided doses, adjusted based on response and tolerance.
Administration:
Take orally with meals to improve absorption. Avoid vitamin A supplements during therapy.
Interaction:
May interact with tetracyclines, vitamin A, and other retinoids. Use caution with other hepatotoxic drugs.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in pregnancy, hypersensitivity to isotretinoin, and patients with hepatic or lipid metabolism disorders.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dry skin, chapped lips, dry eyes, nosebleeds, and photosensitivity. Serious risks include teratogenicity and liver toxicity.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Strictly contraindicated in pregnancy due to high risk of birth defects. Avoid breastfeeding during treatment.
