Indications:
FEMICON is primarily used for contraception (birth control) to prevent pregnancy. It also helps regulate the menstrual cycle, making periods more predictable and lighter. FEMICON is often prescribed for women who experience irregular periods or other menstrual disorders, as well as those seeking reliable protection against pregnancy.
Pharmacology:
FEMICON contains a combination of synthetic hormones, usually estrogen and progestin. These hormones work together to prevent ovulation, making it impossible for the ovaries to release an egg. Additionally, they alter the lining of the uterus, preventing the implantation of a fertilized egg. The pill also thickens cervical mucus, making it difficult for sperm to enter the uterus.
Dosage & Administration:
Take one tablet of FEMICON every day at the same time for 21 days, followed by a 7-day break (or placebo pills, depending on the specific product) to allow a withdrawal bleed.
It is crucial to take FEMICON consistently at the same time each day to ensure its effectiveness.
In case you miss a dose, follow the instructions in the product leaflet or consult your doctor for guidance.
Administration:
Take FEMICON orally with water, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew. If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember, but if it’s almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Never take two tablets at once to make up for a missed dose.
Interaction:
FEMICON may interact with certain medications such as antibiotics, anticonvulsants, and some herbal supplements like St. John's Wort. These interactions may reduce the effectiveness of the contraceptive pill, increasing the risk of pregnancy. Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements you are taking.
Contraindications:
FEMICON should not be used by women who are pregnant, have a history of blood clots, stroke, heart disease, or certain types of cancer (especially hormone-sensitive cancers). It is also contraindicated in women with liver disease, or those who are smokers and over the age of 35.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of FEMICON may include nausea, headaches, breast tenderness, mood changes, and irregular bleeding or spotting between periods. Serious side effects, although rare, may include blood clots, stroke, or heart attack. Seek medical help immediately if you experience chest pain, difficulty breathing, severe headache, or visual disturbances.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: FEMICON should not be used during pregnancy. If you suspect you are pregnant, discontinue use and consult your healthcare provider.
Lactation: FEMICON is not generally recommended during breastfeeding, as it may affect milk production. Consult your doctor before using this contraceptive while breastfeeding.
Therapeutic Class:
Oral Contraceptives (Combination Pill)
Storage Conditions:
Store FEMICON at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep the medication in its original packaging, tightly closed, and out of reach of children. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
