OPT 0.7% is indicated for the treatment of allergic conjunctivitis symptoms, including itching, redness, and swelling of the eyes.
Pharmacology:
The active ingredient, Olopatadine Hydrochloride, is a selective histamine H1 receptor antagonist. It works by inhibiting the release of histamine and other inflammatory mediators from mast cells, thereby reducing allergic symptoms in the eyes.
Dosage:
Adults and Children (3 years and older): Instill 1 drop in each affected eye twice daily (morning and evening).
Children under 3 years: Consult a healthcare provider before use.
Administration:
Wash your hands before use.
Tilt your head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch.
Hold the dropper above the eye and squeeze out 1 drop.
Close your eye and press the inner corner with your finger for about 1 minute to prevent the liquid from draining away.
Replace the cap tightly after use.
Interaction:
If multiple ophthalmic medications are being used, administer them at least 5 minutes apart to avoid dilution and ensure efficacy.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Olopatadine Hydrochloride or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include temporary eye discomfort, burning, or stinging upon application. These effects are usually mild and transient.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Category C. Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Lactation: It is not known whether Olopatadine is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing woman.
Therapeutic Class:
Antihistamines and Anti-allergics.
Storage Conditions:
Store at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after the expiration date printed on the packaging.
