Description
Besixin 0.6% Ophthalmic Suspension is a topical antibiotic used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis, an eye infection caused by various susceptible bacteria. It contains besifloxacin, a fluoroquinolone that works by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial DNA replication and repair. This action effectively kills the bacteria responsible for the infection. The suspension is typically administered as one drop in the affected eye(s) three times a day for seven days. Common side effects include eye redness, blurred vision, eye pain, irritation, itching, and headache. Patients are advised to avoid contact lens use during treatment and to follow proper hygiene to prevent contamination. Besixin is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to besifloxacin or other quinolones. Caution is recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding, as the safety of besifloxacin in these populations has not been established
