Description
Bilastin 20 mg Tablet is a non-sedating antihistamine used to relieve symptoms associated with allergic rhino-conjunctivitis (both seasonal and perennial) and urticaria (hives). It works by selectively inhibiting peripheral H1 receptors, thereby blocking the effects of histamine—a substance responsible for allergic reactions. Bilastine has a high affinity for H1 receptors and does not bind to muscarinic, serotonergic, dopaminergic, or noradrenergic receptors, minimizing the risk of side effects such as drowsiness. The medication is well-tolerated and is primarily excreted unchanged in the urine. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to bilastine or any of its components. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, somnolence, and fatigue, which occur with a frequency similar to that of placebo.
