Genmax HC 5 ml is a combination ear drop formulation containing Gentamicin 0.3% and Hydrocortisone Acetate 1%. Manufactured by OSL Pharma Limited, it is primarily used to treat bacterial infections in the ear, such as chronic suppurative otitis media and otitis externa. Gentamicin, an antibiotic, works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, while Hydrocortisone Acetate, a corticosteroid, reduces inflammation and alleviates symptoms like redness and swelling. This medication is typically administered by instilling 2–4 drops into the affected ear 3–4 times daily, or as directed by a healthcare professional. It is contraindicated in patients with known or suspected perforation of the tympanic membrane or hypersensitivity to any component of the product. Prolonged use should be avoided to prevent overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi. Common side effects may include ear discomfort or irritation.
