AIRMONT 10 MG Tablet is indicated for:

  • Prevention and chronic treatment of asthma.

  • Management of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB).

  • Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.

  • Treatment of allergic conditions caused by elevated leukotrienes.

Pharmacology:
Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that inhibits the cysteinyl leukotriene receptor (CysLT1). Leukotrienes are chemicals in the body that cause inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus production. By blocking these receptors, Montelukast reduces airway inflammation and symptoms of allergic rhinitis.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Adults and Adolescents (15 years and older): One 10 mg tablet daily, in the evening.

  • Children under 15 years: Dosage depends on age and clinical condition; consult a physician.

  • Take with or without food.

Interaction:

  • No significant drug interactions reported.

  • Caution with drugs inducing CYP3A4 (e.g., phenobarbital, rifampin) as they may reduce Montelukast's efficacy.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any other components of the formulation.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Headache, abdominal pain, fatigue, or cough.

  • Rare: Neuropsychiatric events (e.g., agitation, depression), hypersensitivity reactions, or liver enzyme elevation.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Generally safe; consult a physician before use.

  • Lactation: Use with caution as it's unknown whether Montelukast is excreted in breast milk.

Precautions & Warnings:

  • Not for use in acute asthma attacks; continue to use short-acting inhalers as prescribed.

  • Monitor for neuropsychiatric symptoms such as mood changes or behavioral issues.

  • Regular follow-up is advised for long-term use to assess effectiveness and side effects.

Therapeutic Class:
Leukotriene receptor antagonists.
