Indications:
HEXIMAX 2 mg is indicated for the treatment of all forms of Parkinson’s disease (idiopathic, postencephalitic, and arteriosclerotic types) and for the control of extrapyramidal symptoms caused by antipsychotic medications.
Pharmacology:
Trihexyphenidyl is an anticholinergic agent that acts by blocking central muscarinic receptors. It helps restore the balance between acetylcholine and dopamine in the brain, thereby relieving symptoms such as tremors, rigidity, and poor muscle control.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults (Parkinsonism): Start with 1 mg daily, increase gradually by 2 mg increments at intervals of 3–5 days, typically 6–10 mg/day in divided doses.
Drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms: 1–4 mg/day in divided doses.
Best taken with food to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
Interaction:
May enhance the effects of other anticholinergic drugs. Use with caution with CNS depressants. May reduce the effect of levodopa when used concurrently at high doses.
