Indications:
CHOLCUT 5 mg is indicated for the treatment of hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia, to lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, ApoB, and triglycerides, and to increase HDL cholesterol. It is also used in the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients at high risk.

Pharmacology:
Rosuvastatin is a selective and competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the rate-limiting enzyme that converts HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. It increases the number of LDL receptors on liver cells to enhance uptake and breakdown of LDL.

Dosage:

Usual starting dose: 5-10 mg once daily.
Maintenance dose: May be adjusted up to 20 mg or 40 mg based on response.
Dose should be individualized based on baseline LDL levels, therapeutic goals, and patient response.

Administration:
To be taken orally once daily, with or without food. Should be taken at the same time each day. Avoid excessive alcohol intake.

Interaction:
May interact with cyclosporine, warfarin, antacids, protease inhibitors, and other lipid-lowering agents. Risk of myopathy increases with concomitant use of fibrates or niacin.

Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease, unexplained persistent elevations of serum transaminases, during pregnancy and lactation, and in those with known hypersensitivity to Rosuvastatin.

Side Effects:
Common: Headache, myalgia, constipation, nausea, abdominal pain.
Serious: Myopathy, rhabdomyolysis, liver enzyme abnormalities.

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation. Women of childbearing potential should use appropriate contraception during therapy.

Precautions & Warnings:
Liver function tests should be performed before and during treatment. Discontinue if marked muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness occurs. Use caution in patients with heavy alcohol use or liver impairment.
