Indications:
Hexinor is indicated for the treatment of all forms of Parkinsonism (idiopathic, post-encephalitic, and arteriosclerotic) and for the control of extrapyramidal disorders caused by central nervous system active drugs such as antipsychotics.
Pharmacology:
Trihexyphenidyl is a centrally acting anticholinergic that blocks cholinergic activity in the basal ganglia. It helps balance the cholinergic-dopaminergic activity in the brain, reducing tremor and rigidity.
Dosage & Administration:
Initial dose is 1 mg per day, increased gradually by 2 mg every 3–5 days. Usual maintenance dose is 5–15 mg/day in divided doses, taken preferably after meals.
Interaction:
May interact with CNS depressants, alcohol, antihistamines, and tricyclic antidepressants. Potentiates effects of other anticholinergic drugs.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Trihexyphenidyl
Narrow-angle glaucoma
Gastrointestinal obstruction
Prostatic hypertrophy
Side Effects:
Common: Dry mouth, blurred vision, dizziness, constipation, and urinary retention.
Rare: Confusion, hallucination, tachycardia.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Use in lactation should be avoided unless prescribed.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in elderly patients and those with cardiovascular disease or high intraocular pressure. May impair mental and physical abilities.
