ASCOSON 10 ML Injection is indicated for the treatment of severe inflammation due to various conditions such as allergies, asthma, arthritis, severe skin conditions, ulcerative colitis, certain types of shock, and adrenal insufficiency.
Pharmacology:
Dexamethasone is a long-acting synthetic corticosteroid with anti-inflammatory, immunosuppressive, and anti-allergic properties. It reduces inflammation by inhibiting leukocyte infiltration and suppressing immune responses.
Dosage:
Dosage depends on the specific condition and patient’s response. Typical dosage ranges from 0.5 mg to 24 mg per day by IV or IM route.
Always follow physician's instructions.
Administration:
Administered via intramuscular (IM), intravenous (IV), or slow IV infusion. Should be given by a trained healthcare provider.
Interaction:
May interact with NSAIDs (increased risk of ulcers), antidiabetic drugs (may raise blood sugar), anticoagulants, and live vaccines (avoid during corticosteroid use).
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with systemic fungal infections, known hypersensitivity to dexamethasone or any of its components, and in those receiving live virus vaccines.
Side Effects:
May include insomnia, mood changes, increased appetite, fluid retention, high blood pressure, hyperglycemia, muscle weakness, or osteoporosis with long-term use.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if the potential benefit justifies the risk to the fetus. Dexamethasone may be excreted in breast milk. Consult a physician before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use caution in patients with diabetes, hypertension, infections, and peptic ulcers. Do not stop suddenly after long-term use—dose should be tapered gradually.
Therapeutic Class:
Systemic corticosteroids
