Indications:
Skin and wound disinfection
Minor cuts, abrasions, and burns

Treatment of infected skin lesions
Umbilical cord antisepsis in newborns
Pharmacology:
Povidone-iodine is a broad-spectrum antimicrobial agent that works by gradually releasing free iodine, which penetrates microbial cells and oxidizes key proteins and enzymes, causing microbial death. It is effective against bacteria (including MRSA), viruses, fungi, and protozoa.
Dosage:
Apply to the affected area 1–3 times daily or as directed by a physician
May be used with sterile gauze or as a direct application
Administration:
For external use only
Clean the area before application
Apply directly using a clean cotton swab or gauze
Shake well before use
Do not use in eyes, mouth, or deep wounds unless advised by a doctor
Interaction:
Do not use with other topical antiseptics containing silver, mercury, or hydrogen peroxide
May interfere with thyroid tests (T3, T4, TSH) if used excessively
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to iodine or povidone compounds
Thyroid disorders (e.g., goiter, hyperthyroidism)
Extensive open wounds (without medical supervision)
Side Effects:
Mild local irritation or redness
Allergic contact dermatitis (rare)
Temporary brown staining of the skin
Systemic absorption with long-term or excessive use
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Can be used cautiously for small areas
Avoid prolonged use over large surfaces during pregnancy or breastfeeding

Avoid prolonged use without medical supervision
Discontinue if any hypersensitivity or allergic reaction occurs
Do not apply under occlusive dressings without doctor’s advice
