Indications:
Disinfection of minor wounds, cuts, and abrasions
Prevention of wound infections
Treatment of superficial skin infections
Minor burns and insect bites
Pre- and post-operative skin antisepsis (topical use)
Pharmacology:
Povidone-iodine gel releases iodine slowly, which penetrates microbial cells causing disruption of proteins and nucleic acids, leading to microbial death. Effective against bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoa.
Dosage:
Apply a thin layer to the affected area 1–3 times daily or as directed by physician
Cover with sterile dressing if necessary
Administration:
For external topical use only
Clean wound or skin before application
Avoid contact with eyes and mucous membranes
Interaction:
Avoid simultaneous use with other iodine-based products or silver sulfadiazine
No significant systemic interactions expected with topical use
Contraindications:
Allergy to iodine or povidone-iodine
Severe thyroid disorders sensitive to iodine
Large open wounds without medical supervision
Side Effects:
Mild local irritation or redness
Allergic reactions (rare)
Temporary staining of skin or clothing
Rare systemic absorption causing thyroid effects
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Considered safe for topical use in pregnancy and lactation
Use with caution on large skin areas
Precautions & Warnings:
Avoid prolonged use on large areas
Discontinue if hypersensitivity develops
Keep out of eyes and mucous membranes unless diluted
