Indications:
Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)
Chronic idiopathic urticaria (long-term hives)
Sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes due to allergy
Pharmacology:
Fexofenadine Hydrochloride is a second-generation, non-sedating H1-receptor antagonist. It works by selectively blocking histamine at peripheral H1-receptors, reducing allergy symptoms without causing drowsiness.
Dosage:
Adults and children ≥12 years: 120 mg once daily
Dosage should be taken at the same time every day for consistent relief.
Administration:
Take orally on an empty stomach with water. Avoid taking with fruit juice (especially grapefruit, orange, or apple juice) as it may reduce absorption.
Interaction:
Avoid taking with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours
May interact with ketoconazole or erythromycin, increasing fexofenadine levels
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine or any of its components
Side Effects:
Headache
Dizziness
Nausea
Occasionally drowsiness (though rare)
Fatigue
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy Category C: Use only if benefits justify the potential risks
Caution advised during breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with kidney problems
May impair performance in sensitive individuals—do not drive until response is known
Not suitable for children under 12 unless prescribed
