Indications:

• Seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever)

• Chronic idiopathic urticaria (long-term hives)

• Sneezing, nasal congestion, itchy or watery eyes due to allergy

Pharmacology:
Fexofenadine Hydrochloride is a second-generation, non-sedating H1-receptor antagonist. It works by selectively blocking histamine at peripheral H1-receptors, reducing allergy symptoms without causing drowsiness.

Dosage:

• Adults and children ≥12 years: 120 mg once daily

• Dosage should be taken at the same time every day for consistent relief.

Administration:
Take orally on an empty stomach with water. Avoid taking with fruit juice (especially grapefruit, orange, or apple juice) as it may reduce absorption.

Interaction:

• Avoid taking with antacids containing aluminum or magnesium within 2 hours

• May interact with ketoconazole or erythromycin, increasing fexofenadine levels

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine or any of its components

Side Effects:

• Headache

• Dizziness

• Nausea

• Occasionally drowsiness (though rare)

• Fatigue

Pregnancy & Lactation:

• Pregnancy Category C: Use only if benefits justify the potential risks

• Caution advised during breastfeeding

Precautions & Warnings:

• Use cautiously in patients with kidney problems

• May impair performance in sensitive individuals—do not drive until response is known

• Not suitable for children under 12 unless prescribed
