Indications:
FOLISON 5 MG is indicated for the prevention and treatment of folic acid deficiency anemia, during pregnancy to prevent neural tube defects, and for certain anemias due to folate deficiency.
Pharmacology:
Folic Acid is a water-soluble B vitamin essential for DNA synthesis, cell division, and red blood cell formation.
Dosage:
Typically, one 5 mg tablet daily or as prescribed by the physician.
Administration:
Take orally, preferably with food to avoid stomach upset.
Interaction:
May interact with methotrexate, phenytoin, sulfasalazine, and some antiepileptics which may reduce folic acid levels.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to folic acid. Use caution in patients with pernicious anemia not receiving vitamin B12.
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated; rarely may cause allergic reactions, rash, or gastrointestinal disturbances.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe and recommended during pregnancy and lactation to support fetal development.
Precautions & Warnings:
Ensure vitamin B12 deficiency is ruled out before high-dose folic acid therapy to avoid masking symptoms.
