METFAR 850 MG is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Pharmacology:
METFAR contains Metformin Hydrochloride, which decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
Dosage:
Typical starting dose is 500 mg to 850 mg twice daily with meals. Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response and tolerance, up to a maximum of 2550 mg per day.
Administration:
Take METFAR 850 MG orally with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.
Interaction:
May interact with iodine-containing contrast agents, cationic drugs eliminated by renal tubular secretion, and other antidiabetic medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications.
Contraindications:
Not recommended in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, or hypersensitivity to metformin.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include gastrointestinal upset such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and metallic taste. Rare but serious side effect is lactic acidosis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare professional. Metformin is excreted in breast milk; consult doctor before use during lactation.
Therapeutic Class:
Biguanide oral hypoglycemic agent.
Storage Conditions:
Store METFAR 850 MG at room temperature, away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after expiration date.
