METFAR SR 500 MG is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control, especially in patients who require sustained blood sugar control.
Pharmacology:
METFAR SR contains metformin hydrochloride in a sustained-release formulation that lowers hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and improves peripheral insulin sensitivity for better blood sugar control over a prolonged period.
Dosage:
Typically started at 500 mg once daily with the evening meal, dosage may be adjusted by the physician based on patient response. Maximum dose is usually 2000 mg per day.
Administration:
Take METFAR SR 500 MG orally with food, preferably with the evening meal to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Interaction:
May interact with iodine-based contrast agents, cationic drugs eliminated by renal secretion, and other diabetic medications. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, or hypersensitivity to metformin.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and metallic taste. Rarely, lactic acidosis may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly necessary and prescribed. Metformin passes into breast milk; consult a doctor before use while breastfeeding.
Therapeutic Class:
Biguanide oral hypoglycemic agent.
Storage Conditions:
Store at room temperature away from moisture and direct sunlight. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after expiry date.
