Indications:
Doxocontin 400mg is indicated for the treatment of bronchial asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Pharmacology:
Doxofylline, the active ingredient, is a methylxanthine derivative that selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase-4, leading to relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles and improved airflow. Unlike theophylline, it has a better safety profile with fewer cardiovascular side effects.
Dosage:
Adults: 400 mg tablet two or three times daily, or as prescribed by the physician.
Elderly: 200 mg tablet two or three times daily.
Children (>12 years): 10 ml syrup or 200 mg tablet two or three times daily.
Children (6–12 years): 6–9 mg/kg body weight two times daily.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew.
Interaction:
Doxofylline may interact with other xanthine derivatives. Concomitant use with other methylxanthines is not recommended.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to doxofylline or other xanthine derivatives.
Acute myocardial infarction.
Hypotension.
Lactation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, headache, insomnia, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use with caution; assess risk-benefit ratio.
Lactation: Contraindicated.
