Indicated for the management of moderate to moderately severe pain.
Tramadol is a synthetic opioid analgesic that acts on the central nervous system. It binds to the µ-opioid receptor and inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, leading to enhanced pain relief.
The usual adult dose is 50 mg twice daily or as directed by a physician. Dosage may be adjusted based on the severity of pain and patient response.
To be taken orally with or without food. The sustained-release tablet must be swallowed whole without crushing or chewing.
Interactions may occur with CNS depressants, SSRIs, MAO inhibitors, and tricyclic antidepressants, potentially increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome or seizures.
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Tramadol, acute intoxication with alcohol, sedatives, or other opioids, and in patients with uncontrolled epilepsy.
Common: Drowsiness, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, constipation.
Serious: Respiratory depression, seizures, dependency, serotonin syndrome.
Should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Not recommended during breastfeeding as Tramadol is excreted in breast milk.
Use with caution in patients with respiratory depression, increased intracranial pressure, or a history of substance abuse. May impair physical or mental abilities required for driving.
