Tamsulosin is indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Tamsulosin is a selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor blocker. It relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, improving urine flow and reducing BPH symptoms like frequency, urgency, and incomplete emptying.
Recommended dose is 0.4 mg once daily, preferably 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Dose should be adjusted by a physician if necessary.
Take orally with water. Swallow whole; do not crush or chew. Maintain regular dosing schedule.
May interact with CYP3A4 and CYP2D6 inhibitors, leading to increased tamsulosin levels. Caution with antihypertensives due to risk of hypotension.
Hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or any of the capsule components. History of orthostatic hypotension.
Common: Dizziness, headache, abnormal ejaculation.
Less common: Hypotension, rhinitis, fatigue.
Not indicated for use in women. Safety during pregnancy and lactation has not been established.
May cause dizziness or fainting. Caution while driving or operating machinery. Inform surgeon before cataract surgery as Intraoperative Floppy Iris Syndrome (IFIS) has been reported.
