Indicated for the management of moderate to severe pain, both acute and chronic.
Tramadol is a centrally acting synthetic opioid analgesic. It binds to µ-opioid receptors and inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, modifying the perception and response to pain.
The usual adult dose is 100 mg once or twice daily, depending on pain severity and patient response. Dose should be individualized and monitored closely.
Should be taken orally with or without food. The tablet must be swallowed whole and not broken, chewed, or crushed to maintain extended-release properties.
May interact with CNS depressants, MAO inhibitors, SSRIs, and tricyclic antidepressants, increasing the risk of seizures or serotonin syndrome.
Hypersensitivity to Tramadol, acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, centrally acting analgesics, opioids, or psychotropic drugs. Not recommended in patients with epilepsy not controlled by treatment.
Common: Dizziness, nausea, constipation, headache, somnolence.
Serious: Seizures, serotonin syndrome, respiratory depression.
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Tramadol may cross the placenta and is excreted in breast milk; use in lactation is not recommended.
Monitor for misuse, abuse, or addiction. Use cautiously in patients with respiratory disorders or head injury. May impair mental or physical abilities needed for driving.
