Used for continuous management of moderate to severe pain requiring long-acting analgesia.
Tramadol hydrochloride is a centrally acting opioid analgesic. It binds to µ-opioid receptors and inhibits reuptake of norepinephrine and serotonin, modifying pain perception and response.
Typically prescribed as 60 mg once or twice daily. Dosage must be individualized according to pain severity and patient tolerance.
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole without crushing or chewing to preserve sustained-release properties.
Caution with CNS depressants, MAO inhibitors, SSRIs, and other drugs that may increase the risk of seizures or serotonin syndrome.
Contraindicated in hypersensitivity to tramadol, acute intoxication with CNS depressants, and uncontrolled epilepsy.
Common: Nausea, dizziness, constipation, headache, somnolence.
Serious: Respiratory depression, seizures, serotonin syndrome.
Use only if benefit outweighs risk. Tramadol crosses placenta and is excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding is not recommended without doctor consultation.
Avoid use in patients with history of substance abuse, respiratory disorders, or seizure disorders unless under strict medical supervision.
