It is also used to facilitate bowel clearance prior to surgical procedures, childbirth, or radiological investigations. The active ingredient, Sodium Picosulfate, is a triarylmethane derivative that undergoes activation by colonic bacteria, resulting in local action within the colon. This activation stimulates the nerve endings of the intestinal wall, promoting peristalsis and enhancing the accumulation of water and electrolytes in the colonic lumen.
