Description
Gavicool 200 ml oral suspension, manufactured by Pharmasia Limited, is an antacid formulation combining Sodium Alginate, Sodium Bicarbonate, and Calcium Carbonate. This combination offers dual-action relief from symptoms associated with gastric reflux, such as heartburn, indigestion, and flatulence. Upon ingestion, Sodium Alginate reacts with gastric acid to form a gel-like barrier (raft) that floats on the stomach contents, effectively preventing acid from refluxing into the esophagus. Concurrently, Sodium Bicarbonate and Calcium Carbonate neutralize excess stomach acid, providing quick relief from discomfort. The product's mode of action is physical and does not depend on absorption into the systemic circulation. Gavicool is indicated for the relief of gastric reflux, heartburn, indigestion, and flatulence associated with gastric reflux. It is available in a 200 ml bottle, with a typical adult dosage of 10–20 ml after meals and at bedtime, up to four times daily. Children under 12 years should not use this product. Common side effects may include nausea, constipation, diarrhea, or headache. If symptoms persist beyond seven days, medical consultation is advised.
