Indications:
Provair is indicated for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma, prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction, and relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis.
Pharmacology:
Provair contains Montelukast sodium, a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks the action of leukotriene D4 in the lungs, reducing inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus production.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults and adolescents (15 years and older): 10 mg once daily, preferably in the evening.
Can be taken with or without food.
Not for the treatment of acute asthma attacks.
Interaction:
May interact with phenobarbital, phenytoin, and rifampicin, which may reduce the plasma concentration of Montelukast. No significant interaction with theophylline or warfarin.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, fatigue, and fever. Rarely, neuropsychiatric effects like agitation, depression, or suicidal thoughts may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Category B. Use only if clearly needed. Excretion in breast milk is unknown; caution is advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Not a substitute for inhaled or oral corticosteroids. Monitor patients for behavioral and mood changes. Discontinue if neuropsychiatric symptoms appear.

Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
