Indications:
Utrobin is indicated for:
Secondary amenorrhea (absence of menstruation)
Irregular menstrual cycles
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding
Luteal phase support in infertility treatment
Threatened or habitual miscarriage due to progesterone deficiency
Endometriosis
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS)
Pharmacology:
Dydrogesterone is a synthetic progestogen similar to natural progesterone. It acts on the endometrium to transform the proliferative phase to the secretory phase, essential for implantation and maintenance of early pregnancy. It has no androgenic, estrogenic, or corticoid effects.
Dosage & Administration:
Menstrual disorders: Usually 5–10 mg daily for 5–10 days per cycle
Luteal support / threatened miscarriage: 10–20 mg per day as advised
Dose and duration vary depending on indication and individual patient response
Can be taken with or without food
Interaction:
May interact with medications that induce liver enzymes (e.g., rifampicin, phenobarbital), reducing effectiveness
No known significant interaction with other hormonal agents when appropriately prescribed
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Dydrogesterone
Known or suspected hormone-dependent tumors
Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
Severe liver disease
Side Effects:
Common: Headache, nausea, breast tenderness, menstrual changes
Less common: Dizziness, abdominal pain, weight changes
Rare: Allergic reactions, skin rash
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Safe for use during early pregnancy to support the luteal phase or prevent miscarriage. Consult doctor before using during lactation due to limited data.
Precautions & Warnings:
Rule out malignancy before starting treatment for abnormal bleeding
Monitor liver function in long-term use
Caution in patients with history of depression, thromboembolic disorders, or cardiovascular disease
