Dexlan 30 mg is indicated for:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Erosive esophagitis
Heartburn relief
Maintenance of healed erosive esophagitis
Dexlansoprazole is the R-enantiomer of Lansoprazole and belongs to the proton pump inhibitor (PPI) class. It inhibits the H⁺/K⁺ ATPase enzyme system in the gastric parietal cells, reducing the production of gastric acid.
GERD (non-erosive): 30 mg once daily for 4 weeks
Erosive esophagitis: 60 mg once daily for up to 8 weeks
Maintenance (healed EE): 30 mg once daily
Dose should be prescribed by a registered physician based on condition
Take orally with or without food. Swallow capsule whole; do not crush or chew.
May reduce absorption of drugs dependent on gastric pH (e.g., ketoconazole, atazanavir)
Caution with warfarin, digoxin, and methotrexate
May interact with clopidogrel
Hypersensitivity to Dexlansoprazole, other PPIs, or formulation components
Diarrhea
Abdominal pain
Nausea
Flatulence
Headache
Rare: vitamin B12 deficiency (with long-term use)
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed
Caution during lactation due to limited data
Long-term use may lead to hypomagnesemia, bone fractures, or Clostridium difficile infection
Evaluate for gastric malignancy if symptoms persist
Periodic monitoring advised in long-term therapy
