Indications:
XOREL is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder.
Pharmacology:
Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases serotonin levels in the brain, helping to improve mood and reduce anxiety.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Typically 10 to 20 mg once daily, orally.
Dose adjustment depends on patient response and tolerability.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with MAO inhibitors, other SSRIs, anticoagulants, NSAIDs, and alcohol. Increased risk of serotonin syndrome if combined improperly.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or any SSRI
Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors
History of serotonin syndrome
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, headache, dizziness, dry mouth, insomnia, and sexual dysfunction. Rare but serious: serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor. Escitalopram crosses the placenta and may be excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, especially at therapy start. Avoid abrupt discontinuation. Caution in patients with liver impairment or epilepsy.
