Indications:
XOREL is prescribed for major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder.
Pharmacology:
Escitalopram selectively inhibits serotonin reuptake in the brain, increasing serotonin availability to improve mood and reduce anxiety symptoms.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 10 to 20 mg orally once daily.
Dose adjustment should be based on clinical response and tolerability.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
Potential interactions with MAO inhibitors, other SSRIs, anticoagulants, NSAIDs, and alcohol. Risk of serotonin syndrome if combined improperly.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or SSRIs
Concurrent use of MAO inhibitors
History of serotonin syndrome
Side Effects:
Nausea, headache, dizziness, insomnia, dry mouth, sexual dysfunction. Rare: serotonin syndrome, suicidal ideation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Escitalopram passes into breast milk; use caution when breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal thoughts, especially during treatment initiation. Avoid sudden discontinuation. Use cautiously in patients with hepatic impairment or seizure disorders.
