Indications:
ANCOR 2.5MG is indicated for the treatment of hypertension, congestive heart failure, and to prevent symptomatic heart failure in asymptomatic patients with left ventricular dysfunction.
Pharmacology:
Enalapril is an ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme) inhibitor. It reduces the formation of angiotensin II, a vasoconstrictor, thereby relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. It also decreases aldosterone secretion, reducing fluid retention.
Dosage & Administration:
Hypertension: Starting dose is usually 2.5 to 5 mg once daily, may be increased up to 20 mg/day.
Heart failure: Starting dose is 2.5 mg daily, adjusted according to response.
Dose adjustment needed in renal impairment.
Administer orally, with or without food.
Interaction:
May increase the effects of diuretics and antihypertensive agents.
Use with potassium supplements or potassium-sparing diuretics may lead to hyperkalemia.
NSAIDs may reduce its antihypertensive effect.
Contraindications:
History of angioedema related to ACE inhibitors
Pregnancy
Severe renal impairment without dialysis
Hypersensitivity to Enalapril or other ACE inhibitors
Side Effects:
Dizziness, headache, fatigue
Cough, hypotension
Hyperkalemia, renal dysfunction
Rare: Angioedema, rash
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters. It may cause fetal harm. Use during lactation is not recommended as it may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function and serum potassium regularly
Caution in patients with renal artery stenosis, hypotension, or on diuretics
Discontinue if angioedema occurs
Avoid during pregnancy
Therapeutic Class:
Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
