Indications:
RUPA 10 MG is indicated for:
Essential hypertension
Chronic stable angina
Vasospastic (Prinzmetal's) angina
Pharmacology:
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle. This results in vasodilation, reduced peripheral vascular resistance, and improved myocardial oxygen delivery.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 5–10 mg once daily, adjusted according to patient response.
Can be taken with or without food.
Should be taken regularly for effective control.
Interaction:
May increase plasma concentrations with CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., diltiazem, ketoconazole).
May enhance the effects of other antihypertensives.
Caution with simvastatin (dose adjustment may be needed).
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or other dihydropyridines
Severe hypotension
Cardiogenic shock
Side Effects:
Common: headache, dizziness, peripheral edema, flushing
Rare: palpitations, fatigue, nausea
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and under medical supervision. Safety in pregnancy and lactation is not well established.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood pressure regularly
Use cautiously in patients with severe aortic stenosis or heart failure
Avoid sudden discontinuation
