Indications:
Docopa is indicated for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson-like symptoms caused by dopamine deficiency.
Pharmacology:
Levodopa is a dopamine precursor that crosses the blood-brain barrier and is converted to dopamine. Carbidopa inhibits peripheral decarboxylation of levodopa, increasing its availability in the brain.
Dosage & Administration:
Dosage varies per patient; usually started at a low dose and adjusted based on clinical response. Taken orally, usually 2-3 times daily.
Interaction:
May interact with monoamine oxidase inhibitors, antipsychotics, and certain antihypertensives.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to levodopa, carbidopa, or history of narrow-angle glaucoma.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, dizziness, orthostatic hypotension, and dyskinesia. Rare psychiatric effects may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for dyskinesia and psychiatric symptoms. Gradual dose adjustment recommended to avoid adverse effects.
