Indications:
Metacard MR is indicated for treatment of hypertension, angina pectoris, and heart failure; also used for prevention of myocardial infarction.
Pharmacology:
Metacard MR contains Metoprolol succinate, a selective beta-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that decreases heart rate, myocardial contractility, and oxygen demand.
Dosage & Administration:
Usual dose: 25 to 100 mg once daily, adjusted according to clinical response.
Should be taken orally, preferably with or immediately after food.
Do not abruptly discontinue; taper dose gradually.
Interaction:
May interact with calcium channel blockers, antiarrhythmics, insulin, and other antihypertensive drugs.
Contraindications:
Severe bradycardia
Heart block greater than first degree
Cardiogenic shock
Hypersensitivity to Metoprolol
Side Effects:
Common side effects include fatigue, dizziness, bradycardia, hypotension, and gastrointestinal disturbances.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed. Benefits should outweigh risks. Crosses placenta and appears in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor heart rate and blood pressure regularly.
Use cautiously in patients with asthma, diabetes, or peripheral vascular disease.
