TERBIXEN 250 MG Tablet is indicated for:
Onychomycosis (fungal nail infections).
Tinea infections of the skin and scalp, including athlete's foot, jock itch, and ringworm.
Fungal infections caused by dermatophytes.
The active ingredient, Terbinafine, is an allylamine antifungal that inhibits the enzyme squalene epoxidase in fungal cells. This leads to an accumulation of squalene and depletion of ergosterol, disrupting the fungal cell membrane and leading to fungal death.
Dosage: 250 mg once daily for 2-6 weeks, depending on the type and severity of the infection.
Administration: Take orally with or without food.
May interact with rifampin, cimetidine, and cyclosporine, affecting drug levels.
Avoid alcohol consumption to prevent potential liver toxicity.
Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or any other components of the formulation.
Severe hepatic impairment.
Common: Nausea, diarrhea, and headache.
Rare: Hepatotoxicity, rash, and taste disturbances.
Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit outweighs the risk.
Avoid use during breastfeeding, as terbinafine is excreted in breast milk.
Monitor liver function tests during prolonged use.
Discontinue immediately if signs of liver dysfunction (e.g., jaundice, dark urine) occur.
