Indications:
Relief of symptoms associated with seasonal allergic rhinitis such as sneezing, rhinorrhea, itchy or watery eyes, and itching of the throat.
Pharmacology:
Fexofenadine hydrochloride is a second-generation antihistamine that selectively antagonizes peripheral H1-receptors, reducing allergic symptoms without causing drowsiness.
Dosage:
Adults and children over 12 years: 120 mg once daily. Dose may vary based on severity and medical advice.
Administration:
Taken orally with water. Should not be taken with fruit juice as it may reduce absorption.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids containing aluminum and magnesium, and erythromycin or ketoconazole.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any of its components.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician. No adequate human studies; caution advised.
Precautions & Warnings:
Patients with kidney impairment should use with caution. Avoid combining with fruit juices.
