Indications:
Indicated for the treatment of the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
Pharmacology:
Tamsulosin hydrochloride is a selective alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker that relaxes the muscles in the prostate and bladder neck, making it easier to urinate.
Dosage:
The recommended dose is 0.4 mg once daily, taken approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day.
Administration:
Capsule should be swallowed whole with water and not crushed or chewed.
Interaction:
May interact with other alpha blockers, PDE5 inhibitors, and strong CYP3A4 inhibitors like ketoconazole.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or a history of orthostatic hypotension.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, abnormal ejaculation, rhinitis, and headache.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not indicated for use in women.
Precautions & Warnings:
Caution is advised in patients with severe renal or hepatic impairment. Can cause dizziness or fainting, especially when starting treatment.
