Indications:
Used in the treatment of major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Pharmacology:
Luminus (Escitalopram) is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that increases serotonin levels in the brain, helping improve mood and reduce anxiety.
Dosage:
The usual recommended dose is 10 mg once daily. The dose may be adjusted based on patient response and clinical condition.
Administration:
Can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
May interact with MAO inhibitors, other SSRIs, NSAIDs, and anticoagulants. Risk of serotonin syndrome with certain drug combinations.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to escitalopram or citalopram. Not to be used with MAOIs.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, insomnia, fatigue, dry mouth, dizziness, and sexual dysfunction.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use in pregnancy only if clearly needed. Escitalopram is excreted in breast milk; caution should be exercised.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures, mania, or suicidal thoughts. Monitor for worsening of depression or emergence of suicidal thoughts.
