Indications:
Peptrex is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other conditions caused by excessive stomach acid.
Pharmacology:
Peptrex (active ingredient: Esomeprazole or Pantoprazole, depending on brand) is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by specifically inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in the gastric parietal cells.
Dosage:
Usually 20 mg once daily before a meal or as directed by a physician.
Administration:
To be taken orally 30 minutes before meals. Swallow whole with water; do not chew or crush.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs like ketoconazole, warfarin, clopidogrel, and digoxin. Concurrent use should be monitored.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to any of the components, especially other proton pump inhibitors.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and flatulence. Long-term use may cause vitamin B12 deficiency or bone fractures.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term therapy may lead to atrophic gastritis, magnesium deficiency, and increased risk of C. difficile-associated diarrhea.
