Elagox 200 mg contains Elagolix Sodium, a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) receptor antagonist. It is used for the treatment of moderate to severe pain associated with endometriosis, a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside it, causing pain, especially during menstruation. Elagolix works by blocking GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, which reduces the production of luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH). This leads to lower levels of estrogen and progesterone—hormones that promote the growth of endometrial tissue. By suppressing these hormones, Elagox helps alleviate endometriosis-related symptoms. The 200 mg dosage is typically taken twice daily and is recommended for a maximum duration of 6 months due to the risk of bone mineral density loss. It is not recommended during pregnancy and should be used under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
