Visceralgine 50 mg Tablet contains Tiemonium Methylsulphate, a synthetic anticholinergic-antispasmodic agent. It acts as a competitive antagonist to acetylcholine and histamine, stabilizing cell membranes in the gastrointestinal tract by strengthening calcium bonds with phospholipids and proteins. This mechanism inhibits intracellular contractile proteins, leading to the reduction of visceral muscle spasms and associated pain. Visceralgine is commonly used to alleviate symptoms of gastrointestinal, biliary, urological, and gynecological disorders, including gastroenteritis, diarrhea, dysentery, biliary colic, enterocolitis, cholecystitis, colonopathies, mild cystitis, and spasmodic dysmenorrhea. The typical adult dosage is 2 to 6 tablets (100–300 mg) daily in divided doses. It is contraindicated in individuals with glaucoma, urinary retention, or prostate disorders. Caution is advised in patients with chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, hyperthermia, or renal and hepatic insufficiency. Common side effects may include hypotension and tachycardia, particularly with intravenous administration. Use during pregnancy and lactation should be based on a risk-benefit assessment by a healthcare provider. The medication should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from light and moisture, and out of reach of children.
