Description
Nuvifol 5 mg Tablet contains Calcium Folinate (also known as folinic acid), which is an active form of folic acid used in the treatment and prevention of folate deficiency. It is commonly prescribed to counteract the toxic effects of methotrexate therapy in cancer treatment, a process known as “leucovorin rescue.” Nuvifol also plays a crucial role in managing megaloblastic anemia due to folic acid deficiency, especially in conditions like malnutrition, pregnancy, liver disease, or chronic gastrointestinal disorders. The medicine aids in DNA synthesis by acting as a cofactor in the production of purines and pyrimidines. It is often used in conjunction with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in chemotherapy to enhance the anti-cancer effects. Nuvifol is generally well-tolerated, but should be used under medical supervision, especially in patients receiving chemotherapy or with seizure disorders, due to possible interactions with antiepileptic drugs.
