Indications:
Thyronor is indicated for the treatment of primary, secondary, and tertiary hypothyroidism, thyroid hormone replacement therapy after thyroidectomy, and suppression of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) in certain cases.
Pharmacology:
Thyronor contains Levothyroxine sodium, a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4). It works by normalizing thyroid hormone levels, regulating metabolism, growth, and development.
Dosage & Administration:
Initial dose for adults: Usually 12.5 to 25 mcg daily, adjusted based on thyroid function tests.
Best taken on an empty stomach, 30 to 60 minutes before breakfast.
Dose adjustments may be required in elderly and cardiac patients.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, iron supplements, calcium products, warfarin, and certain anticonvulsants. Separate administration times to avoid absorption interference.
Contraindications:
Untreated thyrotoxicosis, acute myocardial infarction, hypersensitivity to levothyroxine.
Side Effects:
Symptoms of overdose may include palpitations, insomnia, tremors, headache, and weight loss. Allergic reactions are rare.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Generally safe and often necessary during pregnancy; dose adjustments may be needed. Small amounts pass into breast milk but considered safe.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of thyroid function tests is important. Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disease.
