Indications:
AMILIN is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and chronic stable angina pectoris. It may also be used in vasospastic angina.
Pharmacology:
Amlodipine is a long-acting calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and decreased blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Usually 5 to 10 mg once daily.
Dosage should be individualized based on patient response.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensives, CYP3A4 inhibitors, grapefruit juice, and simvastatin.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or dihydropyridine calcium channel blockers
Severe hypotension
Cardiogenic shock
Side Effects:
Common: Edema, dizziness, flushing, palpitations, fatigue. Rare: Angina exacerbation, hypotension, hepatic enzyme elevation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed. Limited data available; consult physician before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with severe aortic stenosis or heart failure. Monitor blood pressure regularly.
