Indications:
Xyril is indicated for the symptomatic relief of anxiety and tension, allergic conditions such as urticaria and pruritus, and as a sedative premedication before surgeries.
Pharmacology:
Xyril contains Hydroxyzine, a first-generation antihistamine that blocks H1 receptors and suppresses activity in certain key regions of the central nervous system. It provides anti-anxiety, antiemetic, and sedative effects.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: 25–100 mg daily in divided doses, depending on condition.
For allergies: 25 mg at night, increased if necessary.
For anxiety: 50–100 mg daily in divided doses.
Should be taken orally with or without food.
Interaction:
May enhance effects of CNS depressants (e.g., alcohol, barbiturates, benzodiazepines). Avoid co-administration with MAO inhibitors.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Hydroxyzine or cetirizine. Contraindicated in early pregnancy and in patients with prolonged QT interval.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, dizziness, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Rarely, QT prolongation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during the first trimester of pregnancy. Caution is advised during breastfeeding as the drug may pass into breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in elderly patients, those with cardiac disorders, or those with renal or hepatic impairment. Avoid alcohol while on this medication.
Therapeutic Class:
Sedating antihistamines / Anxiolytics.
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
